If you are lucky enough to have found that special someone to share your life with… you’re probably counting your blessings.

You are also probably starting to daydream about the future… the things you’d like to see and do, the places you’d like to go.

It’s only natural.

Be it a long-term partner, fiance or spouse… chances are, you’ve started a couples bucket list. Or at least thought about it.

Before we proceed, fair warning: a couples bucket list should be driven by a genuine desire to enhance the relationship, create shared experiences, and foster growth as a couple, not as a response to the fear of missing out.

Travel Activities to Do Together

Travel is a great way to get lost for a while and escape the everyday stresses and distractions in life.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to reconnect and remember why you fell in love in the first place.

  1. Play pin the tack on the map

This one’s just what it sounds like. Blindfold your partner and spin them around 3 times before having them place a thumbtack on the wall map. Then it’s your turn.  And, voila! Those are the trips you need to start planning!

  1. Go on an African safari

There are safari tours all across Africa. Based on what you are hoping to see, you can determine which region you visit. There are luxury safaris, rugged safaris… even hunting safaris. If you want to see the “Big Five”, Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is at the top of the list.

Tents, hotels… even igloos are available for rent to watch nature in all her majesty! Some of the best places to view the lights around the world can be found in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Greenland.

  1. Sign up for a cooking tour in Italy

If you love cooking, Italian food… and gorgeous countryside, this is the couples bucket list item for you! Cooking tours usually include time for sightseeing as well!

  1. Go for a hot air balloon ride

Sunrise or sunset… breathtaking views and picnic baskets filled with good food and wine await adventurous couples who want their love to soar.

  1. Visit the Galapagos Islands

On my personal bucket list, the Galapagos Islands are filled with some of the world’s most unique creatures. Whether you choose to visit by land or by sea, you will likely be within arm’s length of Darwin’s main characters.

  1. Take a ride on the Maid of the Mist beneath Niagara Falls

Niagara falls is cool… but riding alongside the rushing falls in a boat is cooler! Visit the official website for operating hours and details.

While the original train no longer exists, a new experience between London and Venice promises not to disappoint… complete with all the swag and romance of yesteryear.  

  1. Drive along the Pacific Coast Highway

Rent a convertible and take a casual drive along the California Coast, from San Diego to San Francisco. Be careful, you may leave your heart there!

  1. Visit the six Trappist breweries in Belgium

I’ve done this with my husband and it’s a MUST DO couples bucket list item for beer lovers. Trust me.  The monks make some tasty beers… and the grounds these breweries are built upon make for lovely walks and picnic lunches.

Plus, Bruges is an amazing stone city that offers horse and carriage rides throughout the cobblestone streets. Oh, and windmills.


  1. Take a guided tour of Tibet

If Brad Pitt’s character could spend seven years there, I’m betting couples could manage a week or so. 

Set beneath the shadow of Mt. Everest, breathtaking views and easy access to other cities throughout the country, make this the perfect stop.

  1. Climb Machu Picchu

Difficulty level on this ranges from 3-5, because of some steep steps. But there are some lower spots still worth checking out if you can’t swing it.

  1. Live abroad for two years

Deciding to live abroad for a while is not as difficult as it sounds. There are companies that will assist you in the transition, from helping you rent your current home to finding a long-term rental.  They will even assist you in finding work, if you haven’t saved enough to do it without.

And with technology today, you’ll be able to keep in touch with family and friends easily via apps like Zoom, FaceTime, WhatApps and Google Meet. 

  1. See a live rocket launch to space

Kennedy Space Center has regular launches throughout the year… just be prepared that some happen very early in the morning. If you’re in the area, launch or no, there are plenty of cool things for space lovers to do.

Cliché, but true… skydiving is one of the ultimate thrills one can experience. And since your first time is tandem, strapped to a certified instructor, you don’t need to do much other than soak it all in!

Whitewater rafting = cool. Doing it in the Colorado River = epic!

  1. Bungee jumping

You can do it from a bridge. You can do it from a building. You can do it from a dam. You can do it from a cable car. Basically, if it’s high enough, you can bungee.

  1. Take a Smokey Mountain zipline tour

Ziplining has become quite the sought after adventure among young and old alike… flying over trees, water, rainforests, valleys.   1. Repel down a waterfall

Been there, done that… in Puerto Rico. And it was awesome! Pair it with a spelunking tour through some natural caves and you’ve got yourself quite the trip!

  1. Go scuba diving

As long as you’re not claustrophobic, or suffer from sinus problems, scuba diving is one thing you should definitely give a try. Snorkeling is wonderful, but being able to remain deep beneath the surface while exploring the quiet around you, is an entirely different experience.

You can often find certification classes at your local YMCA, as all training begins in a pool… before ending with your open water dive.

You can also get certified in a few days while on vacation.

  1. Swim with dolphins, turtles and rays

These magnificent and gentle creatures are worth getting up close and personal with. Some people have even said that swimming beneath the magnificent manta ray is almost like an “alien” encounter.

Cliff jumping is one of the most exhilarating things you’ll ever do. My husband and I did it with our oldest son in Majorca, Spain and never felt so alive!

Apparently, this is a thing.

Slacklining is defined as the act of walking or balancing on webbing, tensioned between two anchors. The tension mixed with slack between the anchors allows the line to stretch and bounce.

Think of hang gliding… but from a parachute.

Kiteboarding combines aspects of paragliding, surfing, windsurfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding all in one.

  1. Go skinny dipping

If you’re feeling particularly naughty, try it in the daytime… when the thought of getting caught adds to the thrill.

  1. Invite another couple into the bedroom

It can be a couple you know… or complete strangers. Whatever you are most comfortable with.

Doing something like this together can be exciting and isn’t technically cheating… since you’re both involved. Just be sure you’re both “up” for it!

Some ideas just off the top of my head… cable car, ferris wheel, log flume, park, museum, movie theater, golf course.

Sex toys come in all shapes and sizes… and fit in places you may have never thought about putting them.

Try it out once… you may feel as if you’re 17 again!

Imagine if you had been given the chance as a teen or young adult to live in another country for a few weeks, months or a year. How different might your life have been?

If you saw the movie, “Back to School” starring Rodney Dangerfield,  you may think going back to school isn’t so scary. In fact, you may think it looks pretty amazing!
